FIRE < ICE: BEAUTY ON THE EDGE
Limited-Edition Prints • First Coffee-Table Book • Official Collaboration with INCA
Dream Trip Becomes Deeper Mission
What began as a bucket-list adventure to explore and photograph Iceland became something far more meaningful. For years, I’d imagined its surreal beauty—black-sand beaches, ice caves, and glacier tongues—would make for an unforgettable solo expedition.
For seven days I lived and traveled in a van, waking at 4:30 a.m. each morning to hike back into the wilderness and meet the first light cresting over glaciers and mountains. Those quiet, freezing dawns—when the world felt both ephemeral and immense—shaped the images you see here.
But as I planned the trip, I was reminded how quickly Iceland’s ice caps are retreating. The reality of the climate crisis turned my anticipation into purpose: to create beauty from a disappearing world and to give something back.
The result is a special folio release of limited-edition prints, captured across Vatnajökull National Park. In official collaboration with the Iceland Nature Conservation Association (INCA)—the Reykjavík-based nonprofit that helped establish the park and continues to defend Iceland’s wild landscapes—twenty percent of every sale directly supports their ongoing conservation efforts. The remaining proceeds help with production costs for an upcoming exhibition and my first-ever coffee-table book—a comprehensive volume sharing the full experience: fine-art photographs, film stills, behind-the-scenes moments, and original writing. This book will be the most complete expression of the journey and a lasting testament to Iceland’s glacier outlets—the way we see them today.
This marks my first-ever artist fundraiser, and I’d be honored for you to be part of it. By collecting a print, you’re not only bringing home a fragment of Iceland’s frozen worlds—you’re directly contributing to its preservation. If the work resonates with you, please share it with friends, family, and colleagues who might be inspired.
With gratitude and inspiration,
Robert Malmberg
